We exist to proclaim Jesus Christ

Atonement – A Multi-Church Good Friday Gathering

This Good Friday, Urban Grace partnered with City Hill Church and The Exchange in a multi-church service.

One of the biggest days in the Jewish calendar was the Day of Atonement. Of this day it is written, ‘For on this day shall atonement be made for you to cleanse you. You shall be clean before the LORD from all your sins.’ (Leviticus 16:30).

One of the biggest calendar days for followers of Jesus is Good Friday, where we remember that we have been relieved of this burden through this, ‘once and for all’, sacrifice by Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:12). This year, we wanted to make it a special day in the calendar of our local church bodies.

Our three church families want to invite you to join with us (even online) in the celebration of the sacrifice of Jesus and the unity of the local church. Since the word atonement (literally, At. One. Ment.) implies unity, we want to publicly take the opportunity to confess our sin of disunity in the local church in Calgary. Our hope is that as followers of Jesus, we are kickstarting a tradition that will become an important calendar moment to the Church of Jesus in our city.

I don’t see the grace pastor. I just here a lot of guilt and shame. God pursues is while we are sinners. He is offended by sin because love is not easily offended. He is a physician that heals us from the disease of sin (guilt, condemnation , fear and shame). Calling people out isn’t the gospel leading them to a God who adores them is. We have never been separated from God, only in our minds. He has never left us or forsaken us.

Read : A More Christlike God by Dr. Brad Jersak or Farwell to Mars by Brian Zohand or Healing the Gosple by Derrick Flood or The Lost Message of Jesus by Steven Chaulk.

I used to teach like you but I have found the grace of God to be bigger, richer and deeper
